That dang amygdala can cause a lot of issues for people when it comes to storing the fear factor as it were.  Of course it serves the wonderful "flight or fight" response that we need BUT when overly stimulated in conjunction with the hippocampus it can be problematic.  The emotional overload doesn't allow "logical &#38; rational" thinking to progress.  So you are very right "feelings/emotions" and "thinking" are two very different processes.  Each important in it's own right when functioning as they are meant too.
