Eat Your Way To A Better Life

Eight foods you should eat every day by Ben Hewitt of Bestlifeonline.com lists the reasons why you should eat spinach, tomatoes, blueberries, yogurt, carrots, black beans, walnuts, and oats as often as possible.

I was happy to see oats on the list given that oats make up about 25% of my diet. Also nice is that none of the foods on the list are particularly expensive or hard to eat. Spinach is about the worst of them and even it is only mushy and slightly bitter.

Improve your health and boost the colour of your meals (and maybe your teeth so don’t forget to brush your teeth after eating).

That’s a lot of oats. Other than oatmeal for breakfast, how do you get up to 25%? What are black beans? Will any bean do?

Hey Neil. I mix quick oats and whey protein powder with cold water and drink it when I wake-up, before I go to the gym or workout, in the middle of long rides or any time I’m hungry but don’t have time to make something. It tastes pretty good and it doesn’t leave me craving more. Oatmeal has a glycemic index level of just over 50 so while the carbohydrate energy they contain becomes available to the body fairly quickly, they do not spike the blood sugar level and force a release of insulin.
As far as your bean questions goes, I’m guessing they mean black beans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_turtle_bean#Black_beans vs. any other kind, given that they make the distinction.
